Esplanade Hotel - St Kilda

For over 100 years the Esplanade Hotel has been Melbourne's premier live music venue.

The Front Bar is the sole of the Esplanade Hotel. With its stunningly clear and powerful Deltamax system and the recently extended stage truly - not to mention the incredible bay views - the Front Bar is one of any performer's most coveted stages.

The Gershwin Room is the former grand dining room of the original Esplanade Hotel. Extensive restoration returned the hallowed stage to its original splendour and majesty, breathing new life into this stunning room.

From the incredibly elaborate ceiling which has been painstakingly hand-finished, the gold leaf walls and rich, hand-rendered motifs, to the open fireplace, the Gershwin Room is now undoubtedly one of Australia's most beautiful spaces.

As a premier live performance space, a great deal of care has been taken to ensure the ElectroVoice DeltaMax sound system is perfectly tuned to the room, and in turn there has been an extensive amount of sound engineering to ensure the room sounds simply stunning, regardless of where you stand.

The historic underground Basement bar has stunning art-deco inspired imagery, original pressed tin moldings and a 'pit' area (further underground) featuring crude Russian tattoo artwork from the early 40s. The interior, designed by Christo Gillard has been fitted with a collection of tall church pews in the main area, and comfortable black couching in the pit; Christo opted to keep the floors' original tiling as a beautiful display of the bar's age.

The bar is a premier live and DJ room in its capacity (just over 170). Hosting a diverse mix of the cream of Australia's live performing artists. Including Dj Dexter, Wolf & Cub, Six Ft. Hick, Mach Pelican, Ground Components, Eddy Current Suppression Ring and Facefull (JAPAN)... and more.

Featuring both exterior and interior entrances, the space can be used separately as a stand-alone ticketed event, or as part of the Espy's other two stages (when larger events incorporate the entire venue).

The area can also be booked for private functions with a fully equipped bar. Our kitchen can also provide full catering options. A cocktail barman can also be provided by request for your special event.

No corners were cut when the bar's production was fitted with a new Nexo PA system, and Ledion lighting console.
