Home > Topics > Hosting beach parties Hosting beach partiesSummer's here and it's the perfect time of the year to host a beach party. They're always fun, different, and best of all - they're a great way to cool off during the heat. Here are some tips to help you out: LocationIt's well worth going on a location scout well before you plan to host your beach party to find the best spot. Then, on the day of the party, make sure someone gets there early to reserve the area before everyone else arrives. Hosting your beach party near a BBQ area not only makes it easier to prepare food - but you're also more likely to have access to power supplies as well - for music, keeping drinks cool and the like. Some councils even permit alcohol to be consumed in the immediate vicinity of BBQ areas - check with the council, on signs, or in-ground liquor consumption area markers for details. As a general rule, almost every Australian beach has free public access. With this in mind, be aware that other people could freely walk through your party at any stage. Keep some sunscreen on hand and plenty of water and non-alcoholic drinks to keep people hydrated in the heat. Water safetyPeople will probably want to go for a swim, so hosting your party in a place that's close to lifeguards helps ensure people can safely swim between the red and yellow flags. It's advisable not to swim after having consumed alcohol. CouncilsDepending what you plan to do, you may need to obtain council approval for some activities - such as playing music loudly or if you plan to set up a gazebo. If you need access to electricity, you may also need a key from council to access some power supplies. If you're required to have a permit, keep it on you at all times in case you're asked to show it to a council or police officer. MusicYou'll be in a public place, so working out how to play music while minimising disruption to other people is important. After all, you don't want to have your party shut down. ActivitiesDepending on the style of party you're planning to have, you might want to plan some beach activities like a game of cricket or beach volleyball.
